Gazelle horns

This delicious gazelle horns recipe pairs well with tea and is often prepared for Ramadan and Aïd meals.


Gazelle horns :
180 gbutter
110gicing sugar
400gall-purpose flour
1 tbsporange blossom water
2 tspiced water
1 tbspmilk
80gicing sugar
1 tspcinnamon
Almond filling :
240gground almonds
80gicing sugar
45 gmelted butter
1 tbsporange blossom water


Gazelle horns : 

  1. In a mixing bowl, beat the butter and the sifted icing sugar until smooth. Add and beat the eggs, one at a time.
  2. Stir in the flour, the orange blossom water and enough of the water to make a firm dough.
  3. Separate dough into 2 parts, cover and cool in the refrigerator for 30 minutes. 

    Almond filling :
  4. Combine almonds, egg, sugar, butter and orange blossom water in an other mixing bowl.
  5. Preheat oven to 320°F. Grease oven trays or use parchment paper.
  6. Separately, roll each dough parts, between sheets of parchment paper until, approximately 2mm thick.
  7. Cut the rounds from each sheet of dough using a cookie cutter or a knife. Re-roll scraps of dough, if possible.
  8. Drop teaspoons of almond filling into centre of rounds and brush edges with a little water.
  9. Fold rounds in half, press edges with a fork to seal. Pinch ends to make them look like horns.
  10. Put the horns in the oven after brushing them with milk. Wait about 20 minutes.

    Frosting :
  11. While baking, combine the extra icing sugar and the cinnamon. 
  12. Finally, roll warm horns in the frosting.

You can eat the horns warm or cold.
