Cinnamon Teacake Recipe

This is a great plain cake, perfect for tea time. It’s just  a simple teacake, but the cinnamon flavor can be considered as the “icing” on the cake.


60gbutter, softened
1 tspvanilla essence
2/3 cupcaster sugar
1 cupself-raising flour
1/3 cupmilk
10gbutter, melted
1 tspground cinnamon
1 tbspcaster sugar


  1. Preheat oven to 180C/350-375 F, 10 minutes before baking. Grease deep 20cm-round cake pan; line base with baking paper.
  2. Beat butter, essence, sugar & egg in a small bowl with electric mixer until light & fluffy; 5-10 minutes.
  3. Using wooden spoon, gently stir in sifted flour and milk. Make sure that there are no lumps.
  4. Spread mixture into prepared pan.
  5. Bake cake in the preheated oven for about 30 minutes.
  6. Turn cake onto wire rack then turn top-side up; brush top with extra melted butter, sprinkle with combined cinnamon & extra sugar. Serve warm with butter, if desired.
