Texas Style Black Bean Chili Recipe


1 lbstew beef, cut into 1" pieces
4 cupscooked black beans
2 clovesgarlic, minced
1white onion, chopped
1 cupfrozen corn
1green bell pepper, chopped
14.5 ozdiced tomatoes (1 can)
3 oztomato paste (1/2 can)
2 cupswater
1 tbspolive oil
3 tbspchili powder
1 tbspcumin
2 tspcayenne powder
1 tspdried basil
1 tspWorcestershire sauce
1/2 tspblack pepper
1 tsppaprika
1 tspsalt


  1. In a large stockpot or dutch oven, brown the stew beef over medium-high heat in 1 tbsp olive oil, until brown on all sides.
  2. Add the garlic, Worcestershire sauce, chili powder, cumin, paprika, and basil and continue cooking until fragrant.
  3. Pour in 2 cups water, stirring the bottom of the pot to incorporate all drippings.
  4. Bring to a boil and add tomato paste, diced tomatoes, black beans, cayenne, and chopped onion.
  5. Bring to a simmer and let cook for a minimum of two hours.
  6. Twenty minutes before serving, add chopped pepper and frozen corn.
  7. Season with salt and pepper.
