Double Chocolate Gooey Butter Cake Recipe

These gooey chocolate cakes are sure to delight everyone!


18.25 ozchocolate cake mix (1 package)
3large eggs
1 cupunsalted butter (2 sticks), melted
8 ozcream cheese, at room temperature
3-4 tbspunsweetened cocoa powder, to taste
16 ozconfectioners' sugar
1 tspvanilla extract
1 cupunsalted nuts, chopped
whipped cream, for topping (optional)


  1. Preheat the oven to 350F. Lightly butter a 9-by-13 inch baking pan.
  2. In a large bowl, combine the cake mix, 1 egg and 1/2 cup of the melted butter. Stir until well blended. Pat the mixture into the pan. Set aside.
  3. Beat the cream cheese until smooth.
  4. Add the remaining 2 eggs and the cocoa powder and beat until well mixed.
  5. Reduce speed and add confectioners' sugar. Beat until well mixed.
  6. Slowly add remaining 1/2 cup melted butter and the vanilla. Beat until smooth.
  7. Using a rubber spatula, stir in the nuts.
  8. Spread the filling over the batter in the pan.
  9. Bake the cake for 40 to 50 minutes. The center should still be a little gooey.
  10. Let partially cool on a wire rack before slicing. Serve with whipped cream.
