Sesame Chicken Recipe

This recipe tastes as good as the restaurant; the sauce will have you staying in from now on.


3whole boneless chicken breasts
2 tbsplight soy sauce
1 tbspcooking wine or dry sherry
3 dropssesame oil
2 tbspflour
2 tbspcornstarch
2 tbspwater
1/4 tspbaking powder
1/4 tspbaking soda
1 tspvegetable oil
1/2 cupwater
1 cupchicken broth
1/8-1/4 cupwhite vinegar or rice wine vinegar
1/4 cupcornstarch
1 cupsugar
2 tbspdark soy sauce
2 tbspsesame oil
1 tspchili paste (or more)
1 clovegarlic, minced
3 1/2 cupspeanut oil
2 tbsptoasted sesame seeds


  1. Mix the marinade ingredients: soy sauce, cooking wine, sesame oil, flour, corn starch, water, baking powder, baking soda, vegetable oil.
  2. Marinate the chicken for 20-39 minutes minutes.
  3. Prepare the sauce: water, chicken broth, vinegar, corn starch, sugar, soy sauce, sesame oil, chili paste, garlic.
  4. Pour sauce into a small pot and bring to a boil, stirring continuously. Turn the heat down to low and keep warm.
  5. Deep-fry the chicken by adding the marinated chicken pieces a few at a time, and leaving until golden brown.
  6. Drain on paper towels and then place chicken in warm oven (130C) while you continue frying. Repeat with the remainder of the chicken.
  7. Just before you are finished deep-frying, bring the sauce back up to a boil.
  8. Place the chicken on a large platter and pour the sauce over. Sprinkle with sesame seeds.
  9. Serve with rice.
