Buttermilk Biscuits Recipe

Spread some butter or jam on these for a delicious breakfast!


1 1/4 cupsself-rising flour
1 1/2 tspbrown sugar
1/4 tspbaking soda
1/4 cupshortening
1/2 cupbuttermilk
1/4 cupcheddar (optional)


  1. Preheat oven to 450*F.
  2. Combine flour, sugar and baking soda with a whisk.
  3. Cut shortening into flour with a pastry blender until small, coarse crumbs develop.
  4. Stir in buttermilk until sticky dough forms. Place on a lightly floured surface and knead 3 or 4 times.
  5. Roll out to about 1/2 inch and cut circles with a 2-inch cutter.
  6. Lay dough on an ungreased cookie sheet.
  7. Bake for 8-10 minutes, or until golden brown.
  8. Serve warm.
